Many of the words we use in the English language are derived from other languages such as Latin, Greek, French, Italian etc., for example words such as spaghetti, au jus and strudel. This page will deal mainly with words of Greek origin. Here are a few examples:
amphibious - describing an animal that lives in water when young and on land as an adult, (from Greek amphibios - living on both)
